A sugar scrub is a beauty product that contains a base of sugar and mixed with an oil, such as coconut, olive, or almond, and is used on the skin to exfoliate away dead cells on the outermost layer of the skin. Short & Sweet’s Body Scrubs are made with sugar, almond oil, your choice of fragrance or essential oil, and coloring of your choosing.

Why Should I Exfoliate?

We all know exfoliation is one of the greatest tools in our metaphorical beauty bag, but what really matters is how and when we do it. Skin naturally sloughs off dead skin cells and replenishes itself every 30 days, but sometimes it needs a hand.  That’s where exfoliation comes in. As counterproductive as it seems to rub cells off your skin, scrubs like Short & Sweet’s Body Scrub are essential in your quest to make your skin brighter and softer, unclog pores and prevent future breakouts, enhance absorption of your favorite moisturizer or our body oils or lotion, and over the long term, increase collagen production and reduce fine lines. It can even prolong the life of your fake tan. It’s like a sugary miracle in the palm of your hand!

When Should I Not Exfoliate?

Accepted Answer

If you have a sensitivity to the scent, almond or avocado oils, or any other ingredients. If any sensitivity develops during use, stop use immediately.
If you are pregnant, ask a medical professional before use of certain scrubs, lotions, or oils that contain essential oils. Use of certain essential oils are discouraged during pregnancy.
If you have cuts, open sores, sunburned, or irritated skin. Exfoliants are a natural skin irritant and the last thing healing wounds need is to be aggravated further. Get your scrub fix by using it on a different part of your body or just taking a big whiff of the delicious scent for now.

Are Body Scrubs and Lip Scrubs Interchangeable?

Unfortunately, no. Our Lip Scrubs are made to be 100% edible, so they contain flavoring instead of fragrance like in Body Scrubs (fragrance tastes bad!). This also means they're a little more sticky and the oil content is higher, so you probably don't want to use it on your body.

Absolutely! We formulated these yummy Lip Scrubs out of sugar, avocado oil, and a special flavoring used for food, so lick off your Lip Scrub to your heart’s content!

How Should I Store My Body Scrub?

Accepted Answer

You'll want to keep them in your bathroom for easy access, but not in the shower. Keep it in a cabinet or on the countertop, and scoop out what you'll need for each individual shower and take that amount with you in a small plastic dish. Your scrub may dry or get a little more wet slightly based on the varying humidity in your bathroom, but don't worry, it still scrubs just as well!.

How Long Does a Body Scrub Last?

We recommend using your scrub up in 3 months, but it won’t hurt you if you have it for longer. If it begins to smell rancid or becomes moldy (which we’ve personally never seen), please discard immediately.

We recommend using your scrub up in 2 months, but it won’t hurt you if you have it for longer. If it begins to smell rancid or becomes moldy (which we’ve personally never seen), please discard immediately.

Can I Use a Body Scrub on My Face?

We don’t recommend using body scrubs on the face since facial skin is more delicate and prone to micro-tears in the skin which can cause wrinkles. Some of our customers have told us that they have used the scrubs on their face and have had no short term detriment. Still, if you’d like to be cautious, avoid your face when scrubbing.

Why Can't I Store My Scrub in the Shower?

Accepted Answer

Our Body Scrub has a sugar base and has only a relatively small amount of oil in it. Because of this, if your product comes into contact with water or wet hands, the sugar will melt and the scrub becomes unusable. We recommend storing your scrub outside the shower and brining in a plastic container with as much scrub as you need for your shower.

Why Should I Use a Plastic Container in the Shower?

Little story from our owner. I originally started using the Margarita Body Scrub in a little glass bowl in the shower. Well, two days later, someone else used the shower, then just as they stepped out, they knocked  over my glass bowl that I had left in there and it EXPLODED! Luckily, they were not hurt, but shattered glass is a pain to get out of anywhere, especially the shower. Be safe, use plastic!

Yes! Use the Custom Products form under the Contacts dropdown, and we’ll be happy to assist you in making whatever product you’d like unscented or uncolored, or both!

Are Your Products Tested on Animals?

Accepted Answer

No, the only animals we had available are 60 lb. dogs and they hate being clean. We may develop a pet shampoo in the future, and then we’d definitely test it on them if they’ll hold still!

Does the Temperature of my Bathwater Make a Difference for Bath Soaks?

Accepted Answer

Nope! Use it just like you would an Epsom Salt, but it has relaxing properties and a great fragrance! Just add it to your bath once it's about 1/8 to 1/4 full and soak for at least 20 minutes, no more than 1 hour.

Is the Lotion or Body Oil Better for Dry Skin?

For very dry skin, we recommend Premium Lotion for the whole body, but for moderately dry skin, our regular or Premium Lotion will do. Body oil is meant for applying while in the shower and then drying off, so the hydrating effect may not be to the extent that your dry skin needs.

As an all female team of developers and testers, we have not tested our Shave Cream on men. Our Shave Cream is a lotion consistency and works its best in shaving legs.

Why do you use Sugar?

Accepted Answer

Sugar is a natural exfoliant and is one of the easiest ways to brighten and soften skin. We’ve found that most salt scrubs are too harsh and are a major pain on freshly shaved legs, chemical peels are too severe for everyday exfoliation (not to mention expensive!), and microbeads are a major no-no for the environment and are banned in many countries. Sugar can be used on all skin types, including sensitive skin because of its non-irritating qualities and the fact that it dissolves completely in contact with water- no lingering residue to aggravate delicate skin. It is also a natural humectant, which in combination with the natural oils we use in our Body Scrub and Lip Scrub, will keep skin hydrated and retain moisture even before you apply a lotion, balm, or oil to seal in the hydration afterwards.

Why do you use Almond Oil?

Almond oil is one of the holy grails of the skincare world. Honestly, there’s not much it can’t do. We love using sweet almond oil in our Body Scrubs since it’s packed with Vitamin E (a powerful antioxidant to fight off UV damage and prevent wrinkles), Vitamin A (to reduce acne by cleaning out pores), fatty acids (to keep skin hydrated and supple), protein, potassium and zinc. It’s naturally non-comedogenic so it won’t clog pores as you hop in the bath and scrub yourself to amazing skin.

Why do you use Avocado Oil?

We love avocados on toast, so why not apply that passion to scrubbing away that annoying, always peeling top layer of your lips? Not only is avocado oil edible, it contains Vitamin E to boost moisture and heal chapped lips, antioxidants to prevent wrinkles and fight UV damage (yay natural sunblock!), beta carotene, proteins, and can have anti-microbial effects. It also has no flavor or scent, so your choice of Lip Scrub flavoring will be the only thing you notice.

Our Honey Brown Sugar Lip Scrub is a hit because it contains all natural ingredients such as local wildflower honey and brown sugar. Honey is mostly known to be sticky and sweet, but it also has many beneficial qualities for the skin, especially the lips. It is a natural humectant, which means it draws moisture from the air to your lips, keeping your lips hydrated long after it is applied. It also minimizes irritation and helps heal skin faster with antibacterial and antioxidant properties. Lather it up and lick away at your yummy and soft honey flavored lips knowing you’re giving them the best natural treatment you can.

Why is my Tub/Shower Slippery After I use a Body Scrub?

No matter how small the oil content is in our Body Scrub, there will always be residue that washes off when your rinse off after exfoliating. Please use caution while using and after using your Body Scrub, and rinse out your tub/shower after using to prevent yourself or anyone else from slipping next time.

Do I Need to Moisturize After Using a Scrub?

We think that moisture is always best, except when it’s melting your scrub! Though it’s not completely necessary to use a lotion or oil after using a Body Scrub or a lip balm after using a Lip Scrub, you’ll feel best when you follow up exfoliation with moisturization, we promise!

Yes! Our web host takes care of all our transactions so we never see any of your info. If you’re still not comfortable paying via debit or credit card, we also accept PayPal upon check out or contact us if you’d like to pay via Venmo. We also accept cash upon pick up at select locations.

We began making our Body Scrubs for Mother’s Day 2019 and have since expanded to Lip Scrubs, Body Oils, Lotions, Shave Creams, and Bath Soaks. Our business began a few months after that when demand got bigger than just making scrubs as a hobby and selling them to family and friends.
